Reality Check - Why Do We Love Video Game Music?

I honestly find most video game music, old or not, to be pretty bland. Very little of it actually works as something you can put on and just listen to, if you don't already know the game. Also, all you mostly hear is today's soundtracks is boring uninspired orchestral music with no depth or soul. Maybe the occasional synth taken straight out of a preset bank. So fucking boring to listen to.

My favorite videogame soundtracks of the last few years is probably Limbo and Max Payne 3, because both soundtracks actually feels like music, and not just music for a video game. It stands on its own.

I'm not saying that I didn't enjoy the music of Mass Effect for example, because I did. While I was playing the game at least. It doesn't really have the emotional depth to me that 'real' music has, because it was so obviously built to compliment a scene in a game. Again, this is what I feel the sountracks for Limbo and Max Payne 3 avoids, which is why they're so good. So more of that, please.
