I agree with most of your stuff, but a modern setting as the main setting wouldn't make much sense in an AC game. They already have the framing device part with which they never did anything good with it, aside from maybe AC3, and even that was kinda mediocre in execution. But fear not, because maybe you're thinking that in Unity they'll go the high road of showing you a beautiful, amazing modern day Paris with all of its awesome landmarks, but no. In fact, you'll get nothing. The modern day frming device in Unity apparently is you, the player, and all we're getting is probably just a few messages on the screen or something to break the fourth wall.
