Following the news this week Conker's Bad Fur Day would be getting a sequel (of sorts) via Project Spark, some fans wondered if original developer Rare might someday make a fully-fledged follow-up to that game.
While it hasn't been ruled out, no studio--inside of Microsoft or out--is working on a new Conker game at the moment, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has confirmed.
"Rare is building something else; Spark community is creative," Spencer said on Twitter. "I'm looking forward to seeing what they build with the Conker assets."
He added: "We didn't say never; it's just not being worked on right now by Rare or any other studio."
The Conker content will be available on Project Spark starting April 23 on Xbox One and PC. Players will have access to "200-300 assets" spanning characters, props, music, and sound effects. Meanwhile, Conker himself will be voiced by actor (and former Rare designer) Chris Seavor.
Rare's most recent game was 2014's Kinect Sports Rivals for Xbox One, which garnered a mixed critical reception upon release in April of that year.
The studio's next project is already playable, as Spencer visited the studio in November and reported back that he was excited by what he saw.
"Got to play the new Rare game today," Spencer said on November 11. "Rare building a uniquely Rare game, as it should be. Great visit to the studio."
