Developer Square Enix Montreal has soft-launched a demo version of its next Hitman game for iOS and Android.
Hitman: Sniper, which was revealed at E3 in June, places players in a fixed sniping position and tasks them with eliminating foes without alerting others. Shooting at targets as they walk past rooftop jacuzzis, for example, will result in them being submerged in the water and thus their murder is undetected.
GameSpot ranked the title as one of the five most intriguing mobile games of E3 2014.
Hitman: Sniper is free-to-play, with advanced weaponry available sooner if people pay (though they can be earned via in-game currency too).
Square Enix Montreal said it has designed Hitman: Sniper to be "a massively competitive sniping game that will focus on the subtlety of execution." The concept is to fine-tune your assassinations to attain higher ranks and climb an online leaderboard.
Only one level is available to players in Canada, according to Touch Arcade, with no details yet on the game's international release.
Square Enix Montreal, which formed in November 2011, released its debut project, Hitman Go, on mobiles and tablets this year.
