First Amazon Fire TV, now Google looks set for its own games-ready Android TV

Google looks like it's planning an Android set-top box of its own: the Android TV.

Documents obtained by The Verge describe the Android TV as "entertainment interface" and there's a mention of an optional game controller, which is similar to Amazon's recently released Fire TV.

The interface is (obviously) built with Android, but it is described as functioning under the hood--the UI will be a series of scrolling cards, with the report saying that users will never be more than 3 clicks away from the main screen and watching content. It is also said that the Android TV will focus on recommending content to the user, rather than displaying everything in a list.

The device will also be said to include voice input commands and notifications. Attached pictures show an interface that loosely resembles the aesthetic of the Google Play Store.

Google is said to be actively courting developers to port apps and games to the device. Images shown in the include tiles for Triple Town, Asphalt 8, Plants vs. Zombies 2, Temple Run, and Where's My Water?

Google did not comment on the report.

Amazon announced and released its own set-top box, the Android Fire TV, last week. Here's everything you need to know about the latest set-top box.
